Tropicana club a fun stop

With non-stop laughter on the bill, the Tropicana's Comedy Stop features some of the brightest new stars in the comedy arena.

Included on the roster are three comics who rotate weekly, the first of which also serves as an emcee. Ours was Al Romas, who kept the crowd chuckling with his rants on smoking, Motel 6, and men's, or "loser's" nights out.

The line-up was a great one with Mitch Fatel, in his slow-witted approach, musing about the joys of relationships and muffins, stealing away with one patron's shoe, and Tommy Blaze, who spouted off about all things sex.

The Comedy Stop prides itself on featuring up-and-coming comics - Romas has opened for Jerry Seinfeld and Paula Poundstone, and Fatel is a frequent visitor to "The Late Show with David Letterman." Blaze was a regular on FOX's "The Newz" and appeared in the '95 season finale of "Friends."

Be sure to catch these comedians if they're in town - popular performers tend to pop back into the club's rotation about four times a year.

The club is lined with rows of long tables along the sides and smaller, round tables nearest the stage, and is quite laid-back - it's pretty much a beer-drinking, jeans and sneakers kind of crowd.

Both the Comedy Stop in Vegas and its predecessor in Atlantic City (both live at the Tropicana in those cities) are produced by Bob Kephart, who started out in the comedy business on the East Coast in 1978. Over the years, the clubs have hosted Ray Romano, Rosie O'Donnell, Tim Allen, Drew Carey and more.

The Comedy Stop has been at the Tropicana since 1992. It is located on the hotel-casino's mezzanine level (take the elevator just inside the front entrance). Tickets can be purchased at the ticket counter on the third floor; restrooms are located just outside the club.
